After a long and brutal hike, we made it to the top of Dog Mountain, where I took this picture. Dog Mountain is in Washington State approximately 35 miles east of Portland, OR in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. If you time it right in the spring, the mountain is ablaze with wildflowers everywhere. It's amazing. This photo captures some of the flowers in bloom. This is looking west back towards Portland. The big mound in the center next to the water is Wind Mountain, which is an old cinder cone volcano, and is no longer active.

This photo was taken on a field trip with my geology class from Clark College in Vancouver, WA. Looking at the eastern end of the Columbia River Gorge from the top of Rowena Crest, in Oregon. The other side of the river is Washington State. On the left side of the picture (the Washington side) you can see exposed lava flows in the hill sides. They are the things that look like steps or ledges. These lava flows are known as the Columbia River Flood Basalts, and originated far away along the Washington/Idaho state borders.

Eastern Gorge over Maryshill, WA
This picture was taken from the Stone Henge replica in the eastern Columbia River Gorge. From the Stone Henge site, you can get a great view of the river, gorge walls and look down on Maryshill, Washington. On clear days, you can also see Mt. Hood in Oregon off in the distance.

Seattle Sunset over Elliott Bay
A beautiful orange sunset over Elliott Bay and the Olympic Mountain Range in Seattle, Washington. I took this picture from the 30th floor of the Westin Building in downtown Seattle back when I used to work for EarthLink. I like the feel of this photo, blazing sun, orange sky, distant mountains, and ships in the bay.

One of my favorite photos. I snapped this picture along the famous Groom Lake Road in the Nevada desert, less than a half mile from the perimeter of the infamous top secret military base we all know as Area 51. Already nervous about being in the area, I noticed immediately after taking this picture a mysterious white truck appeared on top of a nearby hill. The guards (aka. Cammo Dudes) where watching us. Needless to say, my wife and I didn't stick around long.
